Description

Related to the muskmelon, this is a crisp, mild flavored variety that grows long, ribbed, burpless cucumbers with a melon scent. Thin skin does not need to be peeled!

Elongated cucumbers have a beautiful, fluted shape. Armenian Pale Green cucumbers are used in traditional Moroccan feggous salad, a refreshing, chilled salad with cucumber, oregano, orange juice, and white vinegar.

Planting

Start seeds indoors in flats three to four weeks before transplanting to the garden. Transplant seedlings one week after the last spring frost, being careful not to disturb the roots. Keep soil moist and plant seedlings close to a fence or trellis.

Harvesting

This variety is best grown on a trellis to produce straight, long cucumbers that can reach a length of 24 inches. If not grown on a trellis, the cucumbers will grow in a twisted shape. For the best flavor, harvest when the cucumbers are between 12–18 inches long.

Armenian Pale Green cucumbers are heat-tolerant and produce fruit in the summer.

Seed Saving

Allow one cucumber to mature towards the end of the season. Once it grows to 2–3 feet in length, the skin will turn yellow and it will begin to soften. Harvest the fruit, slice it in half length-wise, and use a spoon to scoop out the seeds. Place the seeds in a strainer and rinse with water to remove pulp. Spread seeds out on a n newspaper to dry for 7–10 days. Save only the plump, fully mature seeds in a cool, dry area for up to five years.
