Pearls & Gold Corn is a backyard gardener's favorite! Sweet and tasty, this variety can be enjoyed fresh from the garden or frozen for later. This bicolored variety is the benchmark for white and yellow sweet corn.
Perfect for corn-on-the-cob, corn fritters, salads, soups, and many other dishes!
After danger of frost has passed, plant seeds 1 ½ inches deep in soil. Thin seedlings 8 inches apart, in rows eighteen inches apart. Roots are shallow, so use care when controlling weeds. A 10-6-4 fertilizer is recommended during seedling stage. Keep moist and water well.
Most sweet corn is ready to harvest 15-22 days after the silks form. Grasp the ear and pull downward while twisting the wrist to snap the ear off the stalk.
As the kernels mature, they pass through different growth stages. Harvest in the “milk” stage, when kernels are nearly full-size but still soft and tender (check by puncturing a kernel with your thumbnail to see if a milky substance leaks out). Silks will be dry and brown beyond the end of the husk when ready for harvest.
Let the corn fully mature and dry on the plant. The husk and stalks should be papery and brown. Harvest dried corn and store out of direct sunlight. Allow them to dry for about 10 days before shelling the kernels and removing them by hand. Separate seeds from the chaff and store in a cool, dry place for up to two years.
