Wood Dale Community Garden

Located at the Historical Society's Farm (850 N. Wood Dale Road)

Registration begins February 22
There are two types of registrations:

1. Individual Plot Registrations (reserve a 8x4 raised garden bed for yourself, your family, your friend group or any other group you're a part of! These plots can only be tended and harvested by the person or group who have reserved them).

2. Community Plot Registrations (if you want to contribute but you aren't sure you can commit to a full garden plot on your own, consider working on the community plot. This space will grow produce to be donated to local food pantries.
Garden volunteers will work together to plant, maintain and harvest the plot).

Community Garden Art Contest

The community garden needs your help! Since the garden will be opening soon, we would like to display a unique sign showcasing the garden made by you. This contest is open to adults, kids, the whole community.

Why do we need the garden?

Community gardens bring people together. They are beautiful spaces in our neighborhoods where people can come to socialize, exercise and do something important for our community.

Here are some ways this community garden will give back to Wood Dale:
1. Provide fresh food to local food pantries
2. Encourage healthy eating habits in children
3. Provide families with free, organic food
4. Encourage outdoor activity
5. Promote community and socialization
6. Beautify the community
7. Provides stress-relief
8. Opportunities to learn about gardening, nature, cooking and nutrition

 

Maintaining Your Plot

Great gardens take great effort. As a member of our community garden, you will be responsible for maintaining your plot and making sure the garden is safe and clean.

These items will be provided free of charge:
- Raised Garden Beds
- Seeds
- Gardening Tools
- Water (Hoses)

We encourage you to bring your own seeds, garden tools and decorations to make your plot unique. Remember that weather plays a large role in the care needed to keep our gardens healthy. Make sure you are keeping up with your watering and weeding throughout the season.

If garden plots are abandoned or they become overrun with weeds and debris, The Library reserves the right to cancel the reservation and give the plot to the next person in line.
