Reading Logs
You earn prizes by reading. You keep track of the amount of time you spend reading with our reading log. Here is how the reading log works:
Click here to download a printable Reading Log!
- On your first visit, take a Reading Log and write your name/phone number on it.
- Reading Logs have small boxes printed on them.
- For each fifteen minutes that you read, color in one of the boxes on your Reading Log. Color them in rows, left to right. Each row of four boxes equals one hour.
- When you have one of the four five-hour sections colored in, write the title and author of the book you read below those squares. If you read more than one book, choose your favorite title to write down.
- Visit the library to receive one of your four “take-out bags” full of prizes for each of the five hour blocks.
- If you fill out more than one reading log, you will receive a ticket for each additional log. Write your name and phone number on the ticket and enter it in one of the drawings.
- Remember you can only earn one paperback, either by meeting your reading group’s goals, or by visiting the library six times throughout the summer. Be sure to have your reading log stamped at the check-out desk each time you visit.
Additional Activities
Patches

Post Card Treasure
Mail us a post card from any place you visit this summer. When you visit the library, if the post card has been received, you can choose a treasure box prize. Each post card earns ONE CHILD a prize. Have more than one child in your family? Send a post card from each child.
Peek-A-Book
Read six of the Peek-A-Book titles throughout the summer. Record the titles you read on the Peek-A-Book form. Take the quiz on the Peek-A-Book machine and write down your score on the same form. The first fifty children who complete this activity will receive an Elk Grove Theatre ticket.
