How can I reserve a computer?

Computers can be reserved up to a week in advance by using the "Reservation Station" terminal located near the public computers. You may only have one reservation active at a time. Reservations can also be made by asking at the Reference Desk or calling the library at 630-766-6762. Group reservations must be made in advance with at least a weeks notice to allow for scheduling.

Computer use procedures:

  • All patrons are allowed 120 minutes of computer use per day.
  • Each session will have a maximum of 60 minutes, with an allowance of four 15 minute extensions if no one else has made a reservation.
  • Reservations can be made with a library card in good standing at the PC Reservation Station at the library or by calling the library.
  • You must be present at the time of your scheduled session, the grace period for late arrivals is 10 minutes, which are subtracted from your total time for the day. In the case that you do not show up for a scheduled session, the 10 minute grace period will also be subtracted from your total time, your session will be dropped from the queue and the next scheduled session will start.
  • Reservations can only be made one at a time for a maximum of 7 days in advance. You must complete your reserved session before you can reserve your next session.
  • If you arrive early for your session and find that another computer is not occupied, you may sign on earlier and your session will be moved up.
  • There will be three warnings before sessions expire; at 10 minutes, 4 minutes, and 2 minutes until the end of the session.
  • Make sure that all work is saved to a disk or an external drive before your session ends, the computers will restart after the end of each session and all work will be lost.
  • Make sure to print all work before ending your session. If you need to make changes to your print job and have ended you session, you will need to reserve another session, and if all computers are busy you will have to wait.
  • Pick up your print jobs promptly, the Print Station will hold print jobs for only 2 hours.
  • Users are allowed to lock their session in the cases that they need to step away from the computer. Locking session will prevent others from signing on to your computer; however the time during which a session is locked is deducted from your total minutes of computer use for the day.
  • Sessions will automatically expire after 10 minutes of no activity.
  • All session will end 5 minutes before the closing time of the library.
  • When finished with a session early, make sure to click on DONE so additional minutes are not subtracted from you time.
  • Users may only use their own library card to access the computers.
  • Guest users must show photo ID to library staff to gain computer access. Guest sessions are limited to a one-time use on the day that the pass is issued.
Failure to follow authorized agreement and procedures will result in loss of Internet privileges and/or library privileges.
